Did
you know that Paws Trains can mix and match trucks,
motors, frames etc in order to offer custom re-powering
of almost any locomotive, not just the ones listed in
the table below? We can also get, or make, special items
(for example - DRGW SD40T-2 frames with correct length
short fuel tanks) where there is a demand for these
special items. So, if you have a special project in
mind, let us know!

We have
products to allow you to improve the performance of your
Athearn, Rail Power Products and other locomotives.
Generally speaking, there are several elements:
If you
want to re-power an existing engine, you need to
purchase a Re-powering Kit. On some models, there is a
Re-powering Kit containing the motor, motor cradle and
wiring. On others, you need to purchase the motor cradle
separately from the re-power kit.
The
pictures below show representative 2-axle & 3-axle power
trucks. All the trucks mentioned on this page (both
2-axle and 3-axle) come complete with all gears,
including the worm gear, and appropriate side frames..

The
picture below shows a representative cast motor cradle
and its position in the frame.

We
suggest using double-sided mounting pads to mount the
motor to the chassis.

We
suggest using the special slow-setting Flywheel Cement
to mount the flywheels on the motor shaft.
